From spectators to participants

Match day used to end at the stadium gates. Fans arrived, watched, and left — with almost no digital trail and no reason to come back between fixtures. This club flipped that model by treating every seat as a starting point: a QR on the ticket, the cup, and the concourse screen, each one opening a live experience that ran for the full 90 minutes.

No app download. No extra login. Fans scanned, joined a shared feed, and unlocked moments that only existed if they were actually there — live polls, player-cam clips, and a half-time challenge that filled the big screen. Engagement during the match jumped 3x versus the previous season’s companion-app campaign.

What made it stick

The lesson wasn’t the QR codes. It was designing for the three seconds after the scan: one tap, one reward, one reason to stay. If you are planning a stadium activation, start with that first screen — not the feature list.
