The first three seconds
People do not decide to participate. They decide whether to ignore you. A great interactive experience earns that glance with something specific — a live score, a name, a prize they can picture — then makes the next action cheaper than walking away.
Cognitive load is the silent killer. Too many choices, a login wall, or a screen that looks like a form will send people back to the real world. The best work we have shipped looks almost unfinished: one question, one tap, one visible outcome.
Design for the room, not the desktop
Light, noise, and time pressure change everything. If your experience only works when someone is sitting still with headphones on, it is not an activation — it is a website. Build for one hand, a bright screen, and a reason to look up and smile.
